I've tried few lighting systems including bar mounted twin halogens, bar mounted triple LEDs and helmet mounted halogens, but this is the brightest and best light yet.
The light as a blue hue to it, but this turns out to be great for picking out potholes - there is a minimum of the shadowing usually experienced with night riding.
I wasn't a big fan of the flashing mode, however it would have its uses for road riding. The other two modes, low and high are useful, the low being adequate for all but the most aggressive off road riding, and the high being just about as good as daylight.
I rode with only this light on the bars, so the light was not supplemented by a helmet mounted light.
While High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs (the same as you see on some new cars) are the brightest available, NiteFlux are ahead of the pack with their patented separate ballast and trigger assemblies. This means the weight of the head unit is minimised making it practical as a helmet mounted light. The kit includes bar and helmet mounts. This state-of-the-art system is very reasonably priced at $549 RRP. Specs at a glace:
- 12 Watt HID High Beam
- 7 Watt HID Low Beam
- 10 Watt HID Flash
- 2.5-4.5 Hour run time
- 4 Hour charge time
