We are really excited to announce that Specialized has invited Steve to travel to Adelaide next week to attend the Tour Down Under 2012. His schedule looks pretty packed. He gets to ride for a few hours early each morning (ha ha in 40+ degree heat!) and then after a leisurely lunch gets to watch the finish of each stage, and then hang out with the Saxo Bank and Omega Pharma Quick-Step teams.
Look out for his regular updates on the Crank It Website, and Facebook.

A note from Wanganui Mountain Bike Club:
Hi All,
The Harakeke MTB park is taking shape and many families are having great fun out there. Fantastic.
Formal signs will go up fairly soon with a detailed map. Paper maps will also be made available at a small cost from selected sites in the area e.g. I-site, Bikeshed, Cyclesport, Orange etc. Costs are mounting in creating and maintaining the tracks and paying the club access and insurance fees.
We need to become a viable club and the only way to do that is to have a substantial and vibrant membership. Our ‘sweat equity’ is already substantial – in excess of 100hrs per kilometre of track – but we need people to join the club!
Attached are maps, as well as a membership application form.
Your challenge is:

It was a huge honour for me to be invited to attend the Tour Down Under in Adelaide recently. Specialized had picked a small group of NZ dealers, and together with around 15 Aussie dealers we would cram in as much riding as possible, and watch a couple of stages.

Upon arrival in Adelaide, we were whisked into the Square in the centre of the city. This had been transformed into tent/demo city by all of the big bike brands, and really got the atmosphere going! We quickly assembled our bikes, and then it was a quick ride to our hotel, where we had 20 minutes to be ready to ride! Talk about cracking the whip... We rode about 60km, which included an awesome climb up Windy Point (I thought only Palmy could have a place name like that!), and the fastest descent I have ever ridden; try 2km straight down a 3 lane road, steeper than Ngahere Park! I was doing 82km/h and I was on the brakes because of the wind gusts. The locals easily hit over 100 on a fine day....
