Can you believe it? Almost half way through the year and only a few cold or wet days! Just to remind the Mountain Bikers though, the first N-Duro at Rotorua was a mudfest, see below for more on this.
The distraction of the FIFA World Cup soccer has been welcome on occasional dark and wet mornings. Aren't the Kiwi's going great? Once that's all over, awe have Tour de France Fever. We're recognising it with a couple of promotions below.
Don't forget our mid winter service special – it expires at the end of this month. Any service booked this month applies.
Cheers from the Team at Crank It Cycles.
Muddy start to N Duro Series
A large Palmy contingent went up to Rotorua for the first round of this winter's N Duro series. The rain held off, but a wet week prior lead to very muddy conditions by Rotorua standards. A good time was had by all, although the single speeders, including Ben Somerton (in a narrow 2nd place behind NZ Champ Garth Weinberg) and Phil E, enjoyed smoother drive train performance than those with gears. It was great to see the Crank It colours out there!

Nightlites 900 Lumen look-alikes are available online and being sold on Trade Me but they are vastly inferior to the genuine article
The Nightlites we sell are the Real McCoy. They are cheap, but not nasty! The ones available online have the following disadvantages:
30 day warranty (if you believe the trader) ours carry 12 months
Poorly-sealed battery – the ends are just cardboard
Low quality Chinese cells in the batteries
Inferior battery pouch = no easy way tro secure to bike
Insecure cable connectors = not as water-resistant
Early-generation lamp = driver circuit prone to blowing (the heat sink is inadequate and makes overheating more likely)
Thinner internal wires between driver and LED = poorer performance
Lower “bin” LED = lower light output
No tabs on the mounting rings = harder to mount and remove
No grip on the head unit = prone to moving while in use esp. off-road
No purpose-made helmet mount included
The charger is not an approved unit – if it causes a fire, your insurance could be jeopardised
It's up to you to decide whether you think you'll be able to get spares in a few months, let alone a couple of years, time
It's nearly that time again!
To celebrate we have a special deal on the Garmin Edge 500 Black and White. This version is the same price as the standard model, $399, but in neutral colours. We were hoping to be able to promote the Team Edition but a beer brand which shall not be named blocked its entry into the country due to alleged similarities in the brand colours. This model is not bundled with the Heart Rate Monitor or Speed and Cadence Sensor but for the Tour, we'll do it for the bundle price, $499 (usually $567.90 when bought separately)!
1 only Giant 09 TCR Advanced Team Rabobank Tour Edition, size Medium (suit rider 173-183cm, 5'8"-6'). Was $4599, TdF price $3599 - $1000 off!
Selected Polar Cycling and Fitness Heart Rate Monitors at half price.
Bergamont Bicycles 2010 Range
Bergamont Bicycles have made a great start at Crank It Cycles. Bergamont is a strong brand in Europe, representing top quality and excellent value. The new owners are enjoying their bikes which have a European flavour, specified with components from brands like DT, Mavic, Magura and Schwalbe.
Bergamont model years work differently from most other brands. NZ gets the models about the same time as the European summer, so the current model year is 2010 and we have the models below in stock.
There is currently a 2009 model run-out sale NZ-wide, see this page for great deals!
Congratulations to Greg Daulton, winner of the Horizons District Council and Crank It Cycles field Days Promotion.
The display included information on Sustainable Transport and the prize packge was a Giant Transend City commuter-ready bike (which comes complete with mudguards, pannier rack, chain guard and 8-speed internal hub gears) and accessory package. The accessory package was a helmet, light set, lock, Trek Commuter Jacket and Vaude Camras satchel (which can carry a laptop computer and doubles as a pannier bag.)
