As I write this, it looks like summer has finally arrived as it is a magnificent day! Better late than never I guess... Still, it has been great to see so many people out enjoying their bikes, both on and off the road. Training will be in full swing for those competing in the Karapoti Classic mountain bike race, and also the Bush cycle tour, which is only a few weeks away as well. I look forward to seeing you all at both of these events.
It is great to see all the hard work of the Manawatu Mountain Bike club starting to pay off, with the opening of the first of the new tracks at Arapuke (Kahtuerawa for us old school riders). This track is just awesome, and is a real credit to the skill of the digger driver ( Mike Groube), and the clubs helpers that have made this happen. I am sure that every one that has ridden that track (myself included) really appreciates your hard work, so well done!
The shop has been a very busy wee place! Lots of cool and exciting bikes have passed through the doors so far in February. There are some very lucky bikers out there eujoying their new toys!
Our next big upcoming event is on Saturday 25th February, where we are lucky enough to be hosting another Test The Best with Specialized. This will be a great day, and an excellent oppourtunity for everyone to come and test out some fantastic bikes, both Road and Mountain. The venue is the old landfill site at Ranfurly Road in Feilding, chosen for its great Mountain biking and Road riding areas! The last test day was a huge success. Bring your pedals/shoes/helmet and Photo ID, and be prepared to have some fun! We look forward to seeing you there.
Phil is just back from participating in the opening ride through the newly-designated Country Road cycle touring route, from Mangaweka to Palmerston North. He was joined by his wife Linda on the back of their tandem, local MPs, Palmerston North Deputy Mayor (and avid cyclist) Jim Jefferies and cycle advocates from around the country. Also present was Bill Russell (also on a tandem, with his wife Tresta), who many will know from their association with the Mountian Bike Club. Bill and Destination Manawatu chief Executive Lance Bickford were instrumental in gaining recognition for this scenic and idyllic alternative to cycling down SH1. Lance and his team put on a great event – great work guys and gals!
